England’s oldest tourist attraction, Mother Shipton’s Cave has had a tremendous start to the year – being named winner of Best Family Attraction (Yorkshire Dales) in the 2023 Little Vikings – York for Kids Awards.

The Little Vikings Awards celebrate the very best of family-friendly activities and attractions in York and surrounding areas. Each year families are asked to nominate their favorite places and then vote for the shortlisted finalists. Mother Shipton’s faced tough competition against fellow finalists Fountains Abbey, Bolton Abbey and The Forbidden Corner. Once all the visitor votes had been submitted and counted, Mother Shipton’s was announced as the winner on 20th January 2022.

Fiona Martin, owner of Mother Shipton’s commented, “We are delighted to receive this fantastic award as recognition of everything we’ve done, and continue to do, to create a magical outdoor experience for all the family. It means so much to be recognized by the people and families who have visited our attraction and experienced our themed events. We are very fortunate to have many loyal, returning visitors who love to see the various ways we are evolving the park, adding new and exciting features whilst preserving the history and magic of our ancient attraction.”

The team at Mother Shipton’s are already busy working away on their popular themed events for 2023, including Easter, May Half Term, Summer, Halloween and another spectacular Christmas experience.

The attraction has also been shortlisted for Small Visitor Attraction of the year in the Visit York Tourism Awards which take place in March. The winner will be put forward to the national Visit England Awards for Excellence 2023.
