Job purpose

The Office Assistant provides support for all areas of the site (including administrative duties) which contribute to the unique customer experience provided for all visitors to Mother Shipton’s. The attraction is a woodland park which includes the Petrifying Well and Cave where Mother Shipton, a famous Prophetess, was born in 1488. There is also a Museum and Gift Shop on site. We are the oldest attraction in England, and visitors attend from all over the world. The job role requires excellent customer care skills and flexibility of duties to ensure all operational needs are met. Full training will be given.


Duties and responsibilities

Stock control and presentation in the gift shop. Attention to detail is essential.

Administrative support – provides assistance to all departments where necessary.

Updates spreadsheets inc payroll/personnel information.

Takes group bookings and inputs on electronic system.

Acts as cover in various departments including the ticket booth and museum/gift shop. As first point of contact, meets and greets customers, handles payments, directs visitors to parking areas. Advises and promotes site facilities.

Responsible for day to day upkeep of the office and park, including Ice Cream station museum and gift shop. May be required to open up and lock shop. Handles cash and card payments and checks floats.

Ensures all filing is completed and office area is clean and tidy.

Cleaning and tidying areas of the attraction.

Fulfils any other duties as required to meet business needs.



Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent

Intermediate level use of Microsoft Office

Positive attitude and willingness to embrace all aspects of the business

Cash handling experience

Ability to work flexible hours

Has confidence in writing and excellent customer care skills


Working conditions

Throughout the season Mother Shipton’s is open Monday to Sunday (inc bank and public holidays) – therefore any hours of work offered will be included in an operational seven-day rota. Some aspects of the job role require outside and/or lone working.

Hours of work are 9am until 5pm, 37.5 hours per week. Weekend work will be required. Rate of pay is dependent upon experience.


Physical requirements

The job role will require standing and walking for extended periods of time and the lifting of gift shop stock. The park is a mile long stretch with 3 sets of steps with 25 steps in each set. You must be fit to fulfil the role.

We are always looking recruit Seasonal Staff here at Mother Shipton’s, especially for events during school holidays.

The job varies greatly;

– Working on the ticket booths at the entrance
– Work in the museum
– Working in Mr Whippy ice cream truck

A lot of the work will take place outdoors so applicants must be happy to work outdoors, and have suitable footwear and outer wear.

We are looking for staff for weekends, bank holidays and school holidays through the season until the end of October.

Hours are flexible. The park is open from 10am – 4.30pm during term time, and 10am – 5.30pm during school holidays.

Working hours will be 9.45am – 5.45pm

Hourly rate varies depending on the age of the staff member, above minimum wage.
