As spring reaches its peak and the days stretch ever longer, Beltane arrives. Celebrated on May 1st, this ancient festival marks the halfway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. It is a time when the veil between worlds feels thin, nature is bursting into bloom, and energy is ripe for manifestation.
Beltane is a perfect time to reconnect with the land, set intentions, and celebrate the turning of the seasons.
Creating Your Beltane Altar Space
Your altar doesn’t need to be elaborate, it simply needs to feel meaningful to you. This could be a small corner of your home, a windowsill, or even your garden.
Decorate your space with natural elements that reflect the abundance of the season, including flowers, greenery, twigs and moss.
You can also add symbolic decorations like ribbons. Traditionally, ribbons are central to May Day celebrations and maypole dances, representing the weaving together of energies – earth and sky, human and spirit.
Try making your own mini maypole at home. We’ve created ours using a twig from the floor of the ancient woodland, and reused ribbons from gift wrapping – a simple, sustainable way to bring Beltane magic into your space.
